Nely Galan’s Statement About Coca-Cola
I have been on Coca-Cola’s Advisory Board for three years. It is their research that brought me to the “A-ha” moment that created The Adelante Movement. Why is it that everything we hear about Latinos in the media and from statistics is somehow negative? And why is it that consumer product companies like Coca-Cola dig deeper to find that those same statistics coming from our community actually point to the economic future success of this country. In addition, they show that Latinas are carrying the values that are the foundation for what use to be right in this country.
What I have learned from Coca-Cola is that Latinas are the economic emerging market in this country and that we control 1 trillion dollars in purchasing—which make us the main influencers in our families. I have learned that the world is our oyster, ours to truly have—but only if we are bold enough to take it.
